Car Rental Deals . . .Three tips for saving money on your rental car
- Compare the daily rate with the weekly rate, if you're planning on renting for four, five or six days. You may end up having to pay only a bit extra for a few extra days in that convertible. Occasionally, the weekly rate may even be less!
- Compare the rental car rates at different locations in the same city. While airport locations may be cheaper, the addition of airport surcharges and various other taxes may make it more expensive than in-town rentals. Of course, the cost of getting yourself into the center of town may offset the savings.
- Look at your credit-card coverage. Many cardholders are covered for collision damage or theft of the rental vehicle. With the cost of rental-car insurance ranging from $10-$30 per day, that savings can add up very quickly, especially on long-term rentals. Restrictions do apply, of course, and not all cardholders are covered sufficiently. Be sure you know your level of protection before you decline the rental-car company's insurance.
